Benfica handed Everton another painful lesson at Goodison Park. The two-goal margin of victory could actually have been larger, the Portuguese side missing several chances to increase the embarrassment for Moyes's men. In the event, Benfica settled for two second half goals, one from Saviola and one from Cardozo.

Fulham's players show the pain of defeat in Rome
The other game in Group I, between AEK Athens and BATE Borisov, finished in a 2-2 draw that didn't do much for either side's prospects of qualification. Benfica and Everton remain strong favourites to progress.
Fulham's hopes of qualifying from Group E receded after their 2-1 defeat to Roma, but for an hour it looked very good for Roy Hodgson's side, ahead through Diomansy Kamara's penalty. But things began doing downhill when substitute Erik Nevland was harshly sent off four minutes after coming on.
An equaliser for Roma was inevitable, and it was a cracker when it came, John Arne Riise's shot from outside the box deflecting first off Zoltan Gera and then off Riise's brother Bjorn Helge before beating Mark Schwarzer. Fulham went behind after 76 minutes, Okaka Chuka finding the net, and their misery was complete when Paul Konchesky was dismissed just before full time for a tackle on Taddei.
In the other game in the group, Basle beat CSKA Sofia 3-1 and are top with nine points. Roma have seven and Fulham are third with five.
Celtic's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages are almost over after their 0-0 draw in Hamburg. The home side dominated possession, but the best two chances fell to Celtic, both of which were missed by Scott McDonald.
This leaves Celtic bottom of the section with only two points from four games. Top and almost through with 9 points are Hapoel Tel Aviv, who won 3-0 at Rapid Vienna, and Hamburg are in second with 7.
In Group A, it's looking very much like Anderlecht and Ajax to progress, both of whom have eight points. They both won in the latest round of games, Anderlecht 3-1 at home to FC Timisoara and Ajax by two goals to nil away at Dinamo Zagreb.
More delicately poised is Group B, with three teams chasing qualification. Although Lille are top, they were beaten 3-2 in Genoa, who are a point behind along with Valencia, who were held 2-2 by Slavia Prague after conceding two goals in the last eleven minutes.
Although Sporting Lisbon could only draw at home to FK Ventspils, they have qualified from Group D. Venstspils will now fight over the remaining spot with Heerenveen and Hertha Berlin, the German side defeating the Dutch 3-2.
Group F is effectively over with two rounds of games to go. Galatasaray are top and with ten points after a 3-0 win away to Dinamo Bucharest and Panathanaikos are only a point behind following their 1-0 victory over Sturm Graz.
Former Arsenal star Robert Pires scored twice as Villarreal scored a sensational, quickfire 4-1 win over Lazio to leapfrog the Italians and wrest hold of second place in Group G. Lazio were reeling after the Frenchman's opener with just two minutes on the clock, and things got worse when Roberto Baronio was sent off just two minutes later for a foul on Joseba Llorente.
Villarreal went further ahead on 13 minutes through Cani, and Pires added a second two minutes later. Gonzalo Rodriguez was sent off for the home side on 33 minutes for a foul. Mauro Zarate reduced the deficit on 72 minutes, but the hosts had the final say when Giuseppe Rossi scored from the penalty spot seven minutes from time.
Also in Group G, defender Franz Schiemer's goal in the fifth minute of injury-time against Levski Sofia effectively secured qualification for Salzburg, extending their lead at the top to six points.
Fenerbahce solidified their position at the top of Group H, cruising to a 3-1 win over Steaua Bucharest. FC Twente look likely to join them in the knackout stages, an 89th minute goal from Stoch giving them a 2-1 win in their home game against FC Sheriff.
In-form Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk kept a tight grip on Group J, coasting to a 2-0 win over Toulouse in France, with goals coming from Luiz Adriano and and Olexiy Gay. Club Brugge are second after a 4-2 win at Partizan Belgrade.
Balazs Dzsudzsak's late equaliser earned PSV Eindhoven a 1-1 draw in Copenhagen and a result that keeps them firmly in control of Group K. Jesper Gronkjaer had given the Danes a first-half lead.
Sparta Prague remain in a strong position in second place - but only after a dramatic end to their game at CFR Cluj. Sebastian Dubarbier tied the score at 2-2 with an equaliser in the first minute of injury time, only for Bony Wilfried to net a potentially crucial winner for the Czech side even deeper into added time.
Werder Bremen secured qualification from Group L, with late goals from Tim Borowski and Hugo Almeida giving them a 2-0 win over FK Austria. Atletico Madrid stay clear in second after a 1-1 draw with Nacional.
